Keep experimenting
It’s important to keep playing and
experimenting. Tommy’s recent self-portrait
series, which he shot on lm, is a great
example. ‘I love to shoot on lm, because
it’s so imperfect, and so are we as people,’
he suggests. ‘When it comes together,
it’s beautiful.’

Encourage dgeting
When it comes to posing, Tommy likes to
keep any direction to a minimum. ‘I might
give the model an idea of where I want
them to stand, or rough poses, but I always
then say put yourself into whatever feels
comfortable,’ he explains. ‘Often I will say
your key word is dget!’

Make a dierence
One of Tommy’s most creatively fullling
projects is the lm he made with James Dunn,
a photographer and fundraiser (who sadly
died in 2018 at the age of just 24). ‘James
said if you’re having a totally rubbish day, you
should always still smile,’ recalls Tommy. If you
can, use your skills to benet someone else.

PERSONAL PROJECTS Technique

For his second personal
project, Tommy’s model
Macie was asked to
