When was the club founded?
Potters Bar and District Photographic Society
(PBPS) was founded in November 1948, with
meetings commencing in January 1949. The
society held its rst exhibition in December
1949 and has held them every year since.
Until this March we had an unbroken line of
meetings going back over 70 years.

What does your club offer new members?
New members can expect a warm welcome
and our Membership Secretary will make sure
they are involved in activities from day one.
Potential members can attend three meetings
free and then our very nice treasurer will offer
them the opportunity to pay a subscription.
Under current circumstances, new members
can join free of charge until March 2021. With
four or more exhibitions a year, PBPS allows
its members plenty of opportunity to show

allow us to exhibit over 100 prints.

Describe a typical club meeting.
We meet on most Mondays from September
to early summer (except the Bank Holidays)
with a wide range of external and internal
speakers, competitions and practical
demonstrations. During the summer we hold
social meetings in a local pub to discuss our
latest photographic projects, holidays, the
weather etc. This, of course, all changed in
March. Since then we have encouraged
members to post their latest photographs on
the Society’s Facebook page and a dedicated
page on our website. We are also holding
meetings through video conferencing to allow
us to keep in touch with each other and to
expand the (geographic) range of speakers
available to us. Sadly, we expect to continue

sense of movement

1 Fire Walk by Helen

shot is reminiscent of
something from a film
poster, the silhouette is
perfectly framed

2 Bedruthan Steps

A painterly abstract that
shows how creative and
artistic you can get with
photography

Simply shot and
composed, this classic
scene works extremely
well in monochrome
