(Marvins-Underground-K-12) #1

Vocabulary

energy The ability to do work which we can get from a fuel.

extraction The process of taking oil out of the Earth.

fluorescent A type of lighting that uses less energy than regular light bulbs.

net energy ratio The ratio between the useful energy present in a type of fuel, and the
energy used to extract and process the fuel.

refining The process of removing impurities from oil and to make it usable.

Points to Consider

  • If it takes energy to get energy, then what are the best choices for types of energy?

  • Put each of these actions in order from most important to least: choosing a sustainable
form of energy, increasing energy efficiency, conserving energy use. Explain the order
    you chose.

  • Could everyone in the world use as much energy as a person in the United States does
each day? Why or why not?
