Doyouinviteguestspeakers?
Wearealwaysonthelook-outforspeakers
whoareexpertsandknowledgeablein their
craft.Owingtofinancialconstraintsweare
somewhatlimitedin ourabilitytoattract
speakersfroma distance,somostarefrom
NorthYorkshireorCountyDurham.

Domemberscompetein competitions?
WeareactivemembersofboththeNorth
YorkshireandSouthDurhamPhotographic
Association(NYSDPA),consistingof 13
clubs,andthelargerPAGB-affiliated
NorthernCountiesPhotographicFederation
(NCPF),consistingof 50 clubs.Wecompete
in theannualcompetitionsofbothgroups,
andin 2018,weplayedhosttotheannual
NYSDPAcompetition,includingthe
organisationofanawardseveningwitha
slideshowofallthehigher-placedimages
and commentary from external judges. In

additionwehaveanannualexhibition and

saleofprintsata localvenue.

Howmanymembersdoyouhave?

Wecurrentlyhave 27 members,butwould

liketoincreasethis.Attractingandretaining

youngermembersremainsanongoing

challenge.Althoughwearea relatively

smallclubbasedin a smalltownwehavea

committedmembershipwithsomeexcellent

photographers,andgenerallypunchabove

ourweightin regionalcompetitions.

Areanytripsoroutingsplanned?

Wearestillmakingplansforthissummer.

Lastsummerourmemberswereaskedbythe

townclerktotakephotosat a numberof local

events,followedbyslideshowsat mayoral

coffeemornings.Ourmostrecentoutingwasa

photoshootat thelocalGeorgianTheatreRoyal

• one of the UK’s oldest working theatres.

Doyouhaveanyfunnystoriestoshare

abouttheclub?

It didn’tseemsofunnyat thetime,butwecan

laughnow.Ourmostrecentweekendawaywas

toNorthWales.It startedraining 10 minutes

afterwearrivedontheFridayandstopped

5 minutesbeforeweleftontheMonday!

Whataretheclub’sgoalsforthefuture?

Wewouldreallyliketogrowourmembership

toensuresustainability,soweworkquitehard

toadvertisetheclubthroughthewebsite,

Facebookandin thelocalnewspaper.Weare

planningtoembarkonanexercisetorecorda

socialhistoryof Richmondovera 12-month

period,andtopublisha bookof selected

photos.Hopefullythiswillalsoadvertise

the club to a wider audience.
