Now, once you’ve got all the information on the figure, it’s probably very clear that the answer is (F)

because is TU is 12, and UV is one-half of this value. If you know your Pythagorean triples, you may have

found TU even more quickly, but make sure you’re reading the question carefully. If you don’t read all the

way, you might fall into the trap and pick (H).

Know Your Pythagorean Triples

Pythagorean triples are easy-to-remember, commonly tested ratios for the sides of a right triangle.

Memorizing them can save you a lot of time by enabling you to bypass the Pythagorean theorem.

The most common Pythagorean triples are 3:4:5, 6:8:10, and 5:12:13, each listed from the

shortest to the longest side. Which one does question 22 use?

So let’s review the basic approach for Geometry problems.

The Basic Approach for Geometry

1. Use ballparking to eliminate wrong answers on questions in which a figure is given.

2. Write any information given by the question on the provided figure.

3. Write down any formulas you need and Plug In any information you have.

4. If the question doesn’t provide a figure, draw your own.
