Plate 3.2: Ezekiel in the Valley of Dry Bones, Homilies of Gregory Nazianzus (c.880). Although painted in
the same manuscript as Plate 3.1, this miniature’s style is inspired by a different—classical—tradition.
Compare the drapery and modeling of the figure of Ezekiel on the right-hand side of this miniature (where he
stands next to an archangel) with the figure of Saint Paul at the bottom, extreme right-hand corner, of the
sarcophagus of Junius Bassus in Plate 1.10 on p. 20.
