T’S APPROACHING...the season of stress,
anxiety and love – and that’s just for the
brides. Photographers have it a whole lot
worse; even if they adore the prospect and
process of photographing other people’s
nuptials, it’s never an easy task. From April to
September is typically deemed ‘the wedding
season’ so if you’ve weddings lined up over
the next few months, it’s time to think about
how to inject more creativity into your
standard shots. If this year is your first
wedding shoot you’re probably compiling a
shot-list to rattle through on the day.
Working to a formula is a safe bet but leaves
little room for creativity and it’s those shots
that stand out from the standard. A safe
place to have a little fun with your images is
in the details, more specifically the wedding
bands. It’s a really important image as it
signifies so much of the marriage, but you
often have less than five minutes to work
some magic. There are many options: keep
them in the box, place them in the bouquet
or style them with other details like the
wedding invites, but by packing a few props
in your camera bag you can take creative
close-ups in a flash. Whilst you can’t plan
perfectly for shots like these as you have to
react to what’s around you on the day,
adding a few extra accessories to your kit
can add valuable interest. A compact mirror,
for instance, can create a reflective surface,
use coloured card for seamless backdrops
and a short-string of wired fairy lights can
add instant background bokeh and hide
unwanted distractions – here’s one to try...
