“We met at first light, and after a
brief discussion we ventured into
the wood to find our first location.
As the first challenge was about
finding the light, we set up facing
a group of trees we could see would catch the
warm glow as the sun made it above the trees.
The second challenge was more to my style of
changing the viewpoint for a shot. James had
brought a glass ball to add an extra element to
the images. We also tried defocusing to get a
bokeh effect (at James's suggestion, and don’t
let him tell you otherwise) but it wasn’t really
working. Challenge three was more my cup of
tea – adding intentional movement to the
images. With three techniques tried out we
came away with some shots that had a bit more
variety and dynamism than a static landscape.”July 2019 Digital SLR Photography 71
IN-CAMERA FUN
Vertical panning, and any intentional
camera movement for that matter, is fun
and any two images are never the same.
