20.3.2 Adding an endpoint to an open-ended action verb
To add an endpoint to an open-ended action verb, do one of the following:- Follow the verb with a directional suffix.
你能不能把车开进去？
你能不能把車開進去？
Nǐ néng bù néng bǎ chē kāijìnqu?
Can you drive the car in?
C 19- Follow the verb with a resultative suffix that indicates the result or conclusion of the action.
你睡觉以前得把功课准备好。
你睡覺以前得把功課準備好。
Nǐ shuì jiào yǐqián děi bǎ gōngkè zhǔnbèihǎo.
Before you go to sleep you should finish preparing your course work.
C18.3(^) note Resultative endings that indicate sensory perception, such as 见/見 jiàn ‘to perceive’ and 懂 ding ‘to
understand,’ cannot be used as resultative complements in 把 bf sentences.
- Repeat the verb with the phrase V 一 yī V or V 了 le V.
