Nǐmen shì hǎo péngyou, kàndào tā zuòcuò le jiù yìnggāi gēn tā shuō. Fǎnguolái,
rúguǒ bù gēn tā shuō jiù bù shì zhēnzhèng de péngyou le.
You are good friends. When you see him do something wrong you should speak with
him. Conversely, if you don’t speak with him, you are not a real friend.
41.3 Qualifying a statement with an adjectival verb or stative verb
To qualify a statement involving an adjectival verb or stative verb, use this pattern:
AV/SV 是 shì AV/SV, 可是 kěshì...
但是 dànshì
不过/不過 bùguò
就是 jiù shì
‘AV/SV all right, but.. .’
那个电影好是好,就是太长。( AV )
那個電影好是好,就是太長。
Nàge diànyǐng hǎo shì hǎo, jiù shì tài cháng.
That movie is good all right, but it is too long.
那双鞋子贵是贵,可是我还想买。( AV )
那雙鞋子貴是貴,可是我還想買。
Nà shuāng xiézi guì shì guì, kěshì wǒ hái xiǎng mǎi.
That pair of shoes is expensive all right, but I still want to buy them.
我喜欢是喜欢他,就是他有一点太无聊。(SV)
我喜歡是喜歡他,就是他有一點太無聊。
Wǒ xǐhuan shì xǐhuan tā, jiù shì tā yǒu yīdiǎn tài wúliáo.
I like him all right, he’s just a little boring.
