我们正在想办法解决这个问 题。Wǒmen zhèngzài xiǎng bànfǎ jiějué zhège wèntí. We’re trying
to find a way to solve this problem. 有办法 yǒu bànfǎ have a way with ..., be resourceful ■ 他对小孩
很有办法。Tā duì xiǎohái hěn yǒu bànfǎ. He has a way with children. 没有办法 méiyǒu bànfǎ there’s
nothing we can do ■ 飞机票全卖完了,我们明天不能走,没有办 法。Fēijī piào quán màiwán
le, wǒmen míngtiān bù néng zǒu, méiyǒu bànfǎ. All the air tickets are sold out. We won’t be able
to leave tomorrow. There’s nothing we can do.
bàngōng 办公 [comp: 办 handle + 公 public, public office] V work (as a white-collar worker, usually in
an office) ■ 王经理在办公,你有事可以 给他留个话。Wáng jīnglǐ zài bàngōng, nǐ yǒushì kěyǐ
gěi tā liú ge huà. Mr Wang, the manager, is working in his office. You can leave him a message, if
you’ve any business. 办公时间 bàngōng shíjiān office hours, working hours / 办公大楼 bàngōng dàlóu office

bàn 半 MEASURE WORD half ■ 我等她等了一个半小 时。Wǒ děng tā dēngle yí ge bàn xiǎoshí. I waited
for her for one and a half hours.
bàntiān 半天 [modif: 半 half + 天 day] N 1 half a day 2 a period of time felt to be very long, a very long
time ■ 我等你等了半天了。Wǒ děng nǐ děng le bàntiān le. I’ve been waiting for you for a long
time. ■ 那本书我找了半天,还没找到。Nà běn shū wǒ zhǎo le bàntiān, hái méi zhǎodào. I’ve
been looking for the book for a long time but I still haven’t found it.
bàn tú ér fèi 半途而废 V give up halfway
bànyè 半夜 [modif: 半 half + 夜 night] N midnight, at midnight ■ 他经常工作到半夜才睡。Tā
jīngcháng gōngzuò dào bànyè cái shuì. He often works till midnight before going to bed.
