jíhé 集合 [comp: 集 assemble + 合 combine] V gather together, assemble ■ 我们明天上午十点 钟在火
车站集合。Wǒmen míngtiān shàngwǔ shí diǎnzhōng zài huǒchēzhàn jíhé. We’ll assemble at the
railway station at ten o’clock tomorrow morning.
jítǐ 集体 [modif: 集 collective + 体 body] N collective (ANTONYM 个人 gèrén) ■ 这是董事会集体的决
定。Zhè shì dǒngshìhuì jítǐ de juédìng. This is the collective decision of the board of directors.

jízhōng 集中 V & ADJ concentrate, focus; concentrated, focused ■ 我要集中精力，学好中文。Wǒ yào
jízhōng jīnglì, xuéhǎo Zhōngwén. I will concentrate my energy on gaining a good command of the

NOTE: When 几 jǐ is used in a question to mean how many, it is presumed that the answer will be a
number less than ten. Otherwise 多少 duōshǎo should be used instead. Compare: ■ 你有几个哥哥？ Nǐ yǒu jǐ
ge gēge? How many elder brothers do you have? ■ 你们学校有多少学生？ Nǐmen xuéxiào yǒu duōshǎo
xuésheng? How many students are there in your school?jǐ 己 pron self (See zìjǐ 自己.)
jǐ 挤 TRAD 擠 I V squeeze, crowd ■ 他再忙也要挤 出时间和孩子玩玩。Tā zài máng yě yào jǐchu
shíjiān hé háizi wánwan. No matter how busy he is, he always finds time to play with his children.
■ 这间房间挤不下这么多人。Zhè jiān fángjiān jǐ bú xià zhème duō rén. It is impossible to pack
