this city?
Pǔtōnghuà 普通话 [modif: 普通 common + 话 speech] N Standard Modern Chinese, Mandarin,
Putonghua ■ 大多数中国人都听得懂普通 话。Dàduōshù Zhōngguórén dōu tīng de dǒng
Pǔtōnghuà. Most Chinese people understand Putonghua. ■ 你说普通话不太标准，也不要紧。Nǐ
shuō Pǔtōnghuà bú tài biāozhǔn, yě bú yàojǐn. It doesn’t matter if you don’t speak perfect
Putonghua.
NOTE: Modern Standard Chinese is known as 普通话 Pǔtōnghuà in China, 国语 Guóyǔ in Taiwan and 华 语
Huáyǔ in Singapore and other Southeast Asian countries. They refer to the same language, though slight
differences do exist among them.
