qízi 旗子 [suffix: 旗 flag, banner + 子 nominal suffix] N flag, banner (面 miàn) ■ 国旗是代表国家的 旗
子。Guóqí shì dàibiǎo guójiā de qízi. A national flag is one that symbolizes the country.
qípáo 旗袍 N a woman’s dress with a high neck and a slit up the side, cheongsam

qíguài 奇怪 [comp: 奇 strange + 怪 unusual] ADJ strange, unusual, odd ■ 他一年到头戴着一顶黄 帽
子,真奇怪。Tā yì-nián-dào-tóu dàizhe yì dǐng huáng màozi, zhēn qíguài. It is really odd that he
wears a yellow cap all year long. ■ 对这种奇怪 的现象,我不能解释。Duì zhè zhǒng qíguài de
xiànxiàng, wǒ bù néng jiěshì. I cannot explain this strange phenomenon.

Kǒngbùfènzǐ qǐtú pòhuài tiělù hé gōnglù, zhìzào dà guīmó jiāotōng shìgù. Terrorists attempted to
sabotage railways and highways to cause large-scale traffic accidents. ■ 他们的企图失败了。
Tāmen de qǐtú shībài le. Their attempt failed.


NOTE: 企图 qǐtú is    usually used    for negative    situations. For example,    we  usually do  not say 他企图帮    助我。
Tā qǐtú bāngzhù wǒ. He tried to help me. but 他企图欺骗我。Tā qǐtú qīpiàn wǒ. He tried to deceive me.

qǐyè 企业 N enterprise (家 jiā) ■ 管理一个大型 企业是极其复杂的。Guǎnlǐ yí ge dàxíng qǐyè shì jíqí
fùzá de. To manage a large enterprise is an extremely complex undertaking. 国有企业 guóyǒu qǐyè
state-owned enterprise / 私有企业 sīyǒu qǐyè private enterprise
