Your own cloud doesn’t need to be an ultra-
powerful PC. If you have a motherboard,
processor and memory, all preferably within a
case, manufactured during the last five years or so, then you
already have a great hardware base on which to build your cloud.
STEP 1If you’re lacking initial hardware, getting hold
of the components cheaply can be a bit of pain.
Searching for compatible and good value for
money hardware is time consuming. An alternative solution
is to buy a refurbished system. There are many suppliers on
the internet and you can easily pick up a great potential cloud
server for as little as £99.
STEP 2Don’t forget to include a keyboard, mouse and
monitor in the setup. Although not necessary
once the server is up and running, as you can
remote desktop to it from another PC, you need them to set
everything up to begin with. STEP 3Ideally, you want to have one hard drive as the
main system drive, where the operating system
for the machine is installed, along with all the
apps. Ideally, you need to have a second hard drive available.
This is the cloud storage drive and can be as big as you need it
