The last step added the network address of the
OwnCloud server as a trusted source. To create
users, on the OwnCloud Admin page, click on
the pull-down Admin link in the top right of the screen and
select Users. Click Add Group and create a new user access
group; click the Plus sign to enter the group.
STEP 6
With ifconfig you’re looking for the IP address
of the cloud server, it’s found after the ‘inet’
entry in the list; ours in the Step 4 screenshot,
is 192.168.1.192. Open a new tab in Firefox and enter:
[http://192.168.1.192/owncloud, replacing the 192.168.1.192](http://192.168.1.192/owncloud, replacing the 192.168.1.192)
part with your PC’s IP address. Click on the Add x.x.x.x as
trusted domain button, followed by Yes.
STEP 5
At the top of the screen you can see the Admin
and Password boxes. Use these to enter a
new username, their password and the new
Group you just created. Click the Create button when you’re
done. On another computer, open a browser and navigate
to: http://192.168.1.192/owncloud and enter the new user’s
details. Repeat these steps with all your users.
STEP 7
This next step is tricky. To gain access to
OwnCloud from outside your network you need
to open a hole in your router’s firewall. Every
router is slightly different, making it difficult to say what to do
exactly. However, look for Port Forwarding and allow port 80
access to the OwnCloud server.
STEP 9
Folders within OwnCloud can be created or
deleted by clicking the Plus symbol at the top of
the screen. Folders and files can be shared with
other users by clicking on the Share symbol or the three full
stops. You can change between file and media views by clicking
on the four boxes in the top right of the screen.
STEP 8
You need
your
Broadband
IP Address, as displayed on
your router connection status
page. Use this to connect
to the OwnCloud server as
http://www.broad.band.ip.address/
owncloud. With port 80
allowed through the router
to the OwnCloud server, you
should be able to access
the sever from any Internet
connected device. It’s basic
compared to Google Drive, but
it works.
