MacBook Pro with an Intel chip came in at just
10 hours and 21 minutes of battery life under
the same circumstances, whilst the same device,
identical in all but chip, scored 16 hours and 32
minutes of battery life. So how was Apple able to
offer such vast battery enhancements, without
changing the size of its battery or effecting the
speed or temperature of its devices?

It’s because the M1 chip is the most energy-
efficient chip Apple has ever released, offering
the best performance per watt in the CPU of any
processor in history. Thanks to the company’s
5-nanometer innovations. What’s most exciting
about the battery performance is that we’ve
only seen the MacBook Air and entry-level 13-
inch MacBook Pro upgraded; the hard-hitters
really come when we get our hands on an
upgraded 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2021, with
some predicting battery life of more than 20
hours under the same Tom’s Guide conditions.

TechCrunch also ran independent battery
tests on the new M1 MacBook and achieved
a staggering 16 hours of battery life when
playing back downloaded video content,
which is less than the 18 hours Apple has
promised but still a significant achievement.
