of candidates’ achievements must be kept and
retained for subsequent verification.

It is a condition that candidates have 100%
attendance on the course. If a candidate does
not undertake the required hours, he/she should
successfully complete the exercises not
attended before a certificate is issued.


Equipment The minimum range of equipment for ECDIS
training and assessment is at Annex E.


Trainer/assessor Training and assessment must be undertaken
qualifications by persons qualified in accordance with the
requirements of Section A-I/6 of the STCW
Code. Additional requirements are provided at
Annex F.


Quality standards The arrangements for delivering the training and
assessing competence must be continuously
monitored through a quality standards system to
ensure achievement of defined objectives.


Training centres are required to maintain a
quality standard through documented
procedures that shall be inspected and
monitored by the MCA at intervals not
exceeding five years.


The quality standards system and evaluation
arrangements shall be part of a training centre’s
overall quality assurance system.


Documentation The training centre will issue a certificate to
candidates who have successfully
demonstrated competence in all specified
areas. The certificate will be in the format
shown in Annex G, which has been designed to
ensure it will meet the requirements of Port
State Control.


A certificate cannot be issued prior to approval
of the training by the MCA.


Approval Training centres offering training and
assessment must be approved by the MCA
(see conditions on page vi). Approval
documentation will be issued with a maximum
period of validity of 5 years.


Training centres should apply to the MCA to
have the approval revalidated before the expiry
of the approval certificate.
