weary child, his dog, and a pensive old man, perhaps his father. About 340 B.C. The youth's proportions are Lysippan (see
illustration on p. 294 right). The Classical gravestones of Athens commonly carry quiet contemplative groups of this type,
recalling the dead in life. Few, however, are of this exceptional quality.
