Aerial View Of The Port At Carthage, one of the major harbours of the Roman Mediterranean. The two artificial basins visible in the photograph go back
to the Punic period; the rectangular one was designed for commercial shipping and the circular one for warships. At the centre of the circular port is an
island on which recent excavations have revealed Punic ship-sheds. These were replaced by a monumental precinct in Roman times.
