imperial authority. Both Digest and Code are Latin texts, though produced in the Greek East. The corpus
of civil law had a third part, mainly in Greek, consisting of Justinian's further edicts or 'novels'
promulgated subsequently to the Code, which appeared in 534 with a pompous fanfare of an
introduction.
