The postponed first EUSA Symposium was organised in April

2002 in Paralimni, Cyprus. The main theme of the Sympo-

sium was “Modern trends in European University Sports”. 30

participants from 12 universities participated at this first edi-

tion of the event to discuss the main topics and at the same

time do some sport, social and cultural activities.

USA celebrated its third birthday in 2002. As a young

organisation it was growing up rapidly. In its brief exist-

ence it has expanded its membership by a third, had Eu-

ropean University Championships firmly established in two

team sports and had the potential to develop its program

even more.

In 2002, the 2nd European University Basketball Champion-

ship was held in Koper, Slovenia. Athens, Greece hosted the

2 nd European University Volleyball Championship together

with the first EUSA Cup in Tennis. The number of partici-

pants on the European University Championships increased

for almost one hundred percents compared to the year be-

fore. Seven new countries participated in the events that re-

corded the numbers of 440 participants and 43 university
