1999-2009 EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY SPORTS ASSOCIATION From foundation on

O

n the first meeting of the new Executive Committee that
took place in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, it was decided
to change the title of the European University Champion-
ships to European Universities Championships to stress the
universities as participants on the events.
At the same time the first edition of the EUSA Convention for
the Organisers of the European Universities Championships
was organised in Eindhoven. 45 participants, the representa-
tives of the European Universities Championships Organising
Committees, EUSA Technical Delegates and Members of the
EUSA Executive Committee were present on the seminar. The
aim of the event was to give the general briefing on the
terms and conditions of organisation and to provide best
practice examples. Subsequently the Technical Delegates met
with the Organising Committees of their respective sport in
order to check all details of the organisation and discuss the
progress reports.
The next editions of the Executive Committee Meetings were
organised in Moscow, Paris, and Valencia. The board decided
to put Table Tennis and Rugby 7’s on the 2007 champion-
ships program. With the growth of the sports program, also
the Technical Commission increased a lot what demanded
a new approach to its management. Therefore the board
nominated Mr. Michel Bonfils as a Chairman of Technical
Commission.
The EUSA website was renovated and got a new outfit. It
was also decided to produce EUSA magazine on a yearly ba-
sis with the first EUSA Year Magazine being published in
December.
In 2006, nine European University Championships were or-
ganised with 255 university teams and 2200 participants from
27 countries present. Again, this was a significant growth of
the participation on EUSA events that were becoming more
and more popular among universities and students.
