first 10 years

As we approach the end of the second four year period of our Continental
Organization program, which was under the direction of the FISU
Committee for the Development of University Sport, I can honestly state
that the Commission has done a tremendous job in helping FISU continue
to grow and develop in each Continent. It has been a period of four years
that can be called positive and productive as we continue to use our
Continental Organization program to answer our concerns and questions
of eight years ago.

During these past years I have had the good fortune to visit with the
leadership of all five continental organizations. In addition I have spoken
with literally hundreds of individuals from the various countries within
these continents, not only about FISU and Continental Organizations, but
to speak to them about their own National Federations and the role they
play (no matter how small or large) with these students is paramount as
we all strive to make university sport more meaningful as they approach
their future role in life.

I would like to thank the President of EUSA, Mr. Alberto Gualtieri and
his entire membership for the role that they have all played in the birth
of our FISU “Continental Organization” program. In addition, I would
like also to thank the President of each of our Continental Organizations,
Dr. Xinsheng Zhang President of the Asian University Sport Federation
(AUSF), Mr. Julio Jakob of the Pan-American University Sports
Organization (ODUPA), Mrs. Karen Nelson of the Oceania University
Sport Association (OUSA) and Hassan Chikh of the African University
Sport Federation (FASU) for their leadership in helping FISU become real
partners, with each of their members worldwide. With the continental
spirit that has been generated by the entire FISU Family we shall in the
years ahead continue to leave our mark on the future of our students and
university sport in general.

George E. Killian
FISU President
