1 st EUROPEAN UNIVERSITIES BRIDGE CHAMPIONSHIP

The 1st European Universities Bridge Championship was or-

ganised in Opatija, Croatia from October 4 to 10, 2009 by

the Croatian Universities Sports Federation and the Sports

Association of the Polytechnic of Karlovac. On the first edi-

tion of the championship the organisers recorded enviable

participation of 22 universities teams with 108 participants

from 11 European Countries competing for the titles of the

European Universities Champions.

The event was organised on a high professionally level that

was much appreciated by the participants. The matches were

held in the Grand Hotel 4 Opatijska Cvijeta and were fol-

lowed by thousands of people by internet through the of-

ficial website of the event. The first title of the champion

finally went to the Technical University of Wroclaw from Po-

land that was also chosen to be the host country of the next

edition of the championship in 2011.
