Points to Consider
The electronegativity of an atom describes its ability to attract shared electrons. Nonmetal atoms generally have high
electronegativities, while metals generally have low electronegativities.
- How can electronegativity be used to predict whether a bond between two atoms will be ionic or covalent?
- Is the sharing of electrons in a covalent bond always equal, or can the sharing be dominated by one of the
atoms? How would this affect the properties of the molecule?
