Can you guess what this picture shows? The purple and blue "flames" are matter in a particular state. You’re
probably familiar with the states of matter most common on Earth —solids, liquids, and gases. But these "flames"
are a state of matter called plasma. This plasma ball was made by humans. Plasma also occurs in nature. In fact,
plasma makes up most of the matter in the universe.
What do you know about plasma? For example, do you know where it is found in nature? In this chapter, you’ll find
out as you read about plasma and other states of matter.
