courseof 3 days.Tieflingsareimmunetothiscurse.
Throughoutthefirstday,shaggyfurbeginstogrowallover
thecursedcharacter’sbody.After 24 hours,thecharacter’s
eyesbecomegoat-like,andstumpyhornssproutfromthe
brow.Onthelastday,thecharacter’sfingersandtoesmeld
intodoubledigits,andthehornsgrowtofulllength.This
transformationdoesn’tpreventthecharacterfromwielding
weaponsorcastingspells.Removecurse,greaterrestoration,
oranyothereffectthatendsacurserestoresthecharacter’s
originalappearance,butonlyawishspellcanridthestaffof
itspowertotransformthosewhoattunetoit.

coffin.Thislightistreatedasrealsunlight,andcreatures
aversetosunlightareaffectedbyit.Thegargoyleheadsare 5
feettalland 5 feetwide,withmouthsthatare 2 feetin
diameter.Behindeachhead,anairtightstonevalveblocksa
crawlway.Thevalvesremaincloseduntiltheroom’strap
activates,thoughaknockspellorasuccessfulDC 25 Strength
(Athletics)checkcanforceopenavalve.Castingdispelmagic
ontheillusorysunlightdispelsitandpreventsthetrapfrom
triggering.

Theclosedcoffinisstucktothefloorwithsovereignglueand
hasahingedlid.Adetectmagicspellorsimilareffectreveals
anauraofabjurationmagicaroundthecoffin.Awooden
plaqueinsidethecoffinreads“Drownyoursorrows”in
Common.
Iftheillusorysunlightfallingfromtheceilingstrikesthe
plaquewhenthecoffinisopened,thestoneblockinthe
corridoroutsidetheroomslowlydescends,sealingthe
entrancein 6 seconds.Acreaturethatwishestoenterorleave
thetombduringthistimecandoso,movinguptoitsspeed.If
thecreatureendsitsmovementundertheblock,itmustmake
aDC 15 Dexteritysavingthrow.Ifthesavesucceeds,the
creaturemanagestogetoutfromundertheblockontheside
itwasmovingtoward.Ifthesavefails,thecreaturetakes 55
( 10 d 10 )bludgeoningdamage.Ifthisdamagereducesthe
creature’shitpointsto 0 ,itiscrushedtoapulp;otherwise,the
creatureisshovedintotheroom.Theblockisimperviousto


damageandspells.Whenfullylowered,theblockisair-tight
andrefusestobebudged.
Fourenormouscisternsfilledwithredwinearehiddenin
thewallsbehindthegargoyleheads.Whenthestoneblock
sealsofftheentrance,thevalvesbehindtheheadsopen,
causingthewinetopourfromthegargoyles’mouthsand
nostrils.Thewinefloodsthetombatarateof 1 footperround.
Tryingtocrawlintoagargoyle’smouthwhilewineisgushing
outofitrequiresasuccessfulDC 25 Strength(Athletics)check.
Asthewinebeginspouringintotheroom,allcreatures
presentmustrollinitiative.Trackthepassageofrounds:
 Atthestartofround 3 ,threewineweirds(usewater
weirdstatistics)flowintothetombfromthenorthwest,
northeast,andsoutheastcisterns.Theweirdsattack
anyoneinthetombandareinvisiblewhilefully
immersedinwine.
 After 12 rounds,thewinefillsthetomb.Usethe
underwatercombatrulesinchapter 9 ofthePlayer’s
Handbooktohandlefightingintheseconditions.
Visibilitywithinthewineislimitedto 5 feet.
Theabilitytobreathewaterdoesnothelpacharacter
drowninginwine.When 10 minuteshavepassed,thestone
blocksealingthetombrisesbackuptoitsnicheintheceiling.
Thewinecascadesdownthewesttunnel,pouringdownthe
grandstaircase(area 7 ).Atdawnthenextday,Witherssends
tombdwarvestocleanuptheroomandtunnel,afterwhichthe
winecisternsmagicallyrefillandthetrapresets.

EscapeTunnel


Thesouthwestcrawlwayascendstoarea 24 .Whenthetomb
floodswithwine,theliquidreachesasfarastheslopedsection
ofthecrawlway.

Adventurersonthebalconyheargutturalmoanscomingfrom
thisdoor.
Threeovalholesarecarvedintoanine-foot-wide,nine-
foot-highstonedoorathumanheadheight.Asyou
approach,threehumanoidheadsstickoutoftheholes,
eachcoveredinputridfleshandgnashingonanironbit
boltedtoachainbridle.
Thegnashingheadsbelongtothreezombiesthatare
chainedtoapulleyboltedtotheceilingonthesouthsideof
thedoor.Thepulleyissetupinsuchawaythatwhenallthree
zombiesmoveawayfromthedoor,theyheaveitopen.The
zombieswon’tmovewhilefreshmeattemptsthemfromthe
balcony,butiftheyaresuccessfullyturned,theyraisethedoor
astheyfleetowardthesouth.
Thedoorweighs 1 , 000 pounds.Characterswitha
combinedStrengthscoreof 33 ormorecanliftthedoor.The
zombiesattackanycreaturestheycanreach.Withersandhis
tombdwarvesreplacedestroyedzombieswithin 24 hours.
