Drufileadsthehunt.Sofarthefrostgiantshavegoneabout
theirbusinessunnoticed,butit’sonlyamatteroftimebefore
theyencounteraFlamingFistpatrolfromFortBeluarian.The
frostgiantshateChultanditsclimate,buttheywon’tgiveup
thesearchfortheringnomatterwhatthecost.
Grungs
Thesepredominantlyevilfrogfolkliveinvillagesscattered
throughoutthejungle.Theybuildtheirprimitivestructures
frommud,vines,andwicker,andaremorecomfortablein
treesthanontheground.Theypepperenemieswithpoisoned
arrowsandleapfrombranchtobranchwithoutleavingany
trail.
Notallgrungsareevil.Afewarewillingtohelpexplorers
inexchangeforfoodortreasure.Evilornot,grungswarnaway
intrudersbyhangingthebodiesofslainfoesfromtreesatthe
edgeoftheirterritory.

armytoconquerthecityofMezro.Thearmyconsistedmainly
ofdeadChultansraisedaszombiesandcannibalstransformed
intoghouls.RasNsiandhislegionweredefeatedanddriven
backintothejungle.BeforeRasNsicouldorganizeanother
attack,Mezroplaneshiftedaway,andRasNsiwasstrippedof
hisgod-givenpowers.Declaringhimselfanenemyoftheworld,
hethrewhislotinwiththeyuan-ti.TheremnantsofRasNsi’s
undeadarmyspreadthroughthejunglelikeablight,untilnow
theyclaimhundredsofmilesofwildernessastheirhunting
ground.Tomakemattersworse,Acererakfilledouttheir
rankswithhorribleundeadcreaturessuchasgirallonzombies
andtyrannosauruszombies(seeappendixD),mainlyto
discourageexplorersfromgettingtooclosetoOmu.Asthe
atropalfeedsonthesoulsofthedead,itgrowsinpower.
Eventually,itwillbecomepowerfulenoughtocontrolthese
ravenousundeadcreatures.Untilthen,theundeadhordesof
Chulthavenoleader.Weretigers
Chultansinfectedwithweretigerlycanthropyhauntthejungle
insmallfamiliesorprides.EveryoneinPortNyanzaruhas
heardthisrumor,butnotallbelieveit.
Weretigerpridesavoidoutsiders,includingadventurers,
butafewevilweretigersenjoymakingasportofhunting
intruderswhocometoplundertheirland.Sinceweretigers
canappearhuman,theyreadilyposeasChultanhunters,
guides,rescuers,orexplorerstolureinprey.Theseevil
weretigersusuallyworshipMalar,thegodofthehunt.Others
continueworshipingwhateverdeitiestheyreveredbefore
becominglycanthropes.Yuan-ti
Afterbeingdrivenoutoftheirancientcity(see“Hisari,”),the
yuan-ticlaimedtheruinsofOmuastheirdemesne.Theirspies
inPortNyanzarukeepawaryeyeonthemerchantprinces,
would-betreasurehunters,andadventurers.Charactersmight
alsoencounteryuan-tipurebloods,yuan-timalisons,and
yuan-tiabominationssearchingthejungleforhidden
settlementsandlosttreasures.
Theyuan-tiofOmubelievethatasealedportallies
somewhereunderthePeaksofFlameandthatopeningitwill
enableDendartheNightSerpenttoentertheworld.Thegod
UbtaowassupposedtostandagainstDendar,butwithUbtao
gonefromtheworld,theyuan-tibelievenothingcanstopthe
NightSerpent.Theyhavededicatedanundergroundtempleto
thisserpentinedestroyerofworlds,buttheyarealongway
fromfulfillingtheirultimategoal.

wholongprotectedthelandandChultancivilization.But
Ubtaogrewangryoverhisworshipers’endlesswarringand

centuryago,UbtaosimplyabandonedChult,andhisinfluence
hasn’tbeenfelttheresincethatday.Whenheleft,theChultans
sufferedacripplingspiritualblow,buteventuallythe
disunited,warringtribeslearnedtoputasidetheirpetty
conflictsanduniteasonepeople.Tothisday,thedinosaursof
ChultarestillreveredasUbtao’ssacredchildrenbymany
Chultans,eventhoughUbtaohimselfisnolongerpopular.WithUbtaogone,theChultansturnedtootherdeities,
