standsatanopendooronthefarsideoftheroom.The

Thestonefontisattachedtothefloorandcan’tbetipped
over.Itisalsoimpervioustodamageandspells.Itappearsto
hold 40 pints( 5 gallons)ofhotsoup,buttheliquidisillusory.
Tactileexplorationrevealsthattheliquidhasnosubstance
andthefontisdry.
Thedarkfigureisamagical,illusoryduplicateof
whichevercharacteropenedthedoortotheroom.Itcopies
thecharacter’smovements,allowingashrewdplayertouse
theduplicatetodispensewiththeliquidinthefont.The
shadowduplicatehasthestatisticsofacommonerandis
immunetopoisondamage.Itperfectlymatchesthemotionsof
thecharacterwhocreatedit,alwayskeepingitsbacktoits
creatorasthoughitwasaprojectedimage 15 feetahead.
Ifthecharacterwhocreatedtheshadowduplicatemoves
backward,theduplicatemovestowardthefont.Ifthe
characterthenmimesdrinkingfromthefont,theduplicate
slurpsupthe“soup”atarateof 5 pintsperround,drainingthe
fontin 8 rounds.Oncethefontisdrainedofillusorysoup,a
treasureappearsinthefontthatwasn’ttherebefore(see
“Treasure”below).Castingdispelmagiconthefontcausesthe
illusorysouptovanish,butthetreasuredoesnotappear.The
illusorysoupreappears 1 minutelater.
Theshadowduplicatecan’texertpressureonobjectsand
glidesthroughanyobstaclesitencounters.Castingdispel
magiconthefigurecausesittovanish.Itdoesn’treactto
takingdamagebutdisappearsifitdropsto 0 hitpointsoris
madetoleavethechamber.Closingthedoortotheroomand
reopeningitcreatesanewduplicateofwhoeveropenedthe
door.Therecanbeonlyoneshadowduplicateatatime.
Theshadowduplicatehasaterribleanddeadlyaspect.Any
creaturethatlooksuponitsfaceseesahorrificvisagelocked
inasilentscreamandmustsucceedonaDC 15 Wisdomsaving
throwordropto 0 hitpoints.Acreaturethatcannotbe
frightenedautomaticallysucceedsonthesavingthrow.
Treasure
Ifashadowduplicatedrinksalltheillusorysoupinthe
font,a 1 - inch-diametereyeballmadeofincandescentorange
crystalappearsatthebottomofthefontandcaneasilybe
removed.Iftheeyeistakenfromthefontandlaterputback,it
disappearsandtheillusorysoupeffectisreset.
