A 5 - foot-wide, 5 - foot-thick, 12 - foot-tallblockofsolidstone
fillsthedoorwayleadingtoI’jin’stomb(area 35 B).Theblock
isfeaturelessonthesidethatfacesthetomb,anditis
impervioustodamageandspells.Ifthecharactersapproach
theblockfromtheeast,read:
Thecorridorendsatablockofstoneonwhichis
paintedaseven-foot-talljackal-headedhumanoidwitha
circulargoldmedallionarounditsneck.Allaroundthe
figurearecarvingsoflocusts.
Closeinspectionrevealsthatoneofthecarvedlocustsisa
buttonthatcanbepushed.Whenthishappens,thestoneblock
sinksintothefloor,creatinganopenpassagetothetomb(area
35 B).
The“medallion”wornbythejackal-headedpaintingis
actuallya 6 - inch-diametergolddiskengravedwiththefaceof
ahorneddevil,itsmouthagape.Lodgedbehindthisdiskisa
claydialetchedwitheighthieroglyphs.Onehieroglyph(a
vulture)isvisiblethroughaholethatformsthedevil’sgaping
mouth,butthedialislockedinplaceanditsremainingseven
hieroglyphsarehiddenfromviewbehindthemedallion.
Ifanycharacterstepsonavulturefloortileinarea 35 B,
thedialturns,revealinganewhieroglyph:aserpent.One
hieroglyphatatime,thedialrevealsthecorrectsequenceof
floortilestostandon:vulture,serpent,door,reed,scarab,
scepter,foot,andurn.Steppingonafloortilethatmatchesthe
hieroglyphonthedialcausesthedialtoturn,revealingthe
nextsymbolinthesequence.
Thegoldmedallionisattachedtothestoneblockwith
sovereignglue,andremovingitrequiresuniversalsolvent.
However,onecansimplydestroythemedalliontogetatthe
dialunderneath.Removingordestroyingthemedallion
exposesthedialanditseighthieroglyphs.
Oncethemedallionisoutoftheway,thedialcanbeeasily
removedfromitsspokeinsidethestoneblock.However,
removingthedialreleasesacorrosivegastrappedwithinthe
block.Thegasescapesthroughtinyholeshiddenbehindthe
dialandfillsthe 5 - footspacedirectlyeastoftheblock.Any
creatureinthisareawhenthegasisreleasedmustmakeaDC
14 Constitutionsavingthrow,taking 44 ( 8 d 10 )aciddamage
onafailedsave,orhalfasmuchdamageonasuccessfulone.A
characterwhosearchesfortrapscandetecttheholeshidden
behindthedialwithaDC 25 Wisdom(Perception)check;once
found,theseholescanbepluggedwithwaxbeforethedialis
removed,preventingthegasfromescaping.

Fourtorchesilluminatestonesphinxescrouchedinthe
cornersofthisfifteen-foot-highroom.Thetorchescast
flickeringlightacrosshieroglyphscarvedintothetiled
floor.Atthecenteroftheroom,agold-inlaidfuneral
bargestandsatopathree-foot-tallstonedais.Resting
onthedeckofthebargeisasmallgoldensarcophagus
decoratedwithhornedrabbits.Adarkshaftopensinthe
ceilingdirectlyabovethebarge,whiletothesouth,a
corridorisvisiblethroughasetoffangscarvedintothe
wall.
Theskeletonofadwarfsprawlsontheflooreastofthe
barge,cladinatatteredyellowturbananddustychain
mail,andclutchingabronzeshield.
TounlockI’jin’ssarcophagus,eightfloortilesmustbe
steppedoninthecorrectsequence(see“HieroglyphicFloor”
belowandhandout 23 inappendixE).Steppingonthetilesin
thewrongordertriggersatrap(see“SphinxStatues”below).
TheskeletalremainswereonceBravusBoulderborn,a
golddwarfclericofMoradinandformermemberofthe
CompanyoftheYellowBanner.Bravusdiedasaresultof
steppingonfloortilesinthewrongorder,andhisbodylies
atopafloortilebearingthe“foot”hieroglyph.Asearchofthe
bodyyieldssomevaluables(see“Treasure”below).
Fourtorcheslighttheroom.Aslongastheyremainintheir
brackets,theyneverburnout.Ifatorchisremovedfromits
bracket,itburnsdownnormally.
