guardianofOmunamedKaragos.Anycreaturethattouches
theskullorsitsinthethronemustsucceedonaDC 16
CharismasavingthroworbecomecursedwiththeRageof
Karagos.Whencursed,thecreaturegains 50 temporaryhit
pointsandgoesberserk.Untilthecurseislifted,thevictimis
forcedtoattackthenearestcreatureitcanseewithmelee
attacks.Itcan’tmakerangedattacksorcastspells,andifit
can’tseeanycreaturestoattack,itdoesnothing.Thecurse
endsiftheberserkcreaturedropsto 0 hitpoints,orifa
greaterrestorationorremovecursespelliscastonit.Whenthe
curseends,thetemporaryhitpointsgrantedbyitdisappear.

Thewallsofthisroomareadornedwithtilemosaicsof
ajunglecityintermingledwithfrescoesofflowering
plants,birds,insects,andhumanswearinggoldskirts
andcarryingspearsandornatejugs.Theceilingis
paintedtolooklikeaclearbluesky.Asmallbejeweled
cockroachrestsatopasarcophagusofblackbasaltin
themiddleoftheroom.Atwo-foot-diameterorb
hangingfromachainabovethesarcophagusismadeof
hammeredgoldtoresembleasmilingsun.
AfterAcererakslewthetrickstergodsofOmuand
enslavedthecity,Napaka,thecity’selderlyqueen,chosenotto
flee,andinsteadofferedherselfasasacrificeinexchangefor
thereleaseofherpeople.Acererakwasimpressedbythe


queen’scourage—notenoughtospareherlifeorhonorher
request,butenoughtoplaceherinaspecialcrypt.
Adetectmagicspellorsimilareffectrevealsaurasof
evocationmagicaroundthegoldensunandthebejeweled
cockroach(see“Treasure”below).
Thelidoftheblacksarcophagusbearsanameetchedin
Common:NAPAKA.Thelidissealedwithstripsofmeltedlead
thatcanbeeasilypriedaway.Oncetheleadisremoved,thelid

(Athletics)check.Theinteriorofthesarcophagusislinedwith
leadandcontainsseveraltreasures(see“Treasure”below).

Wheneverthesunoritschainaretouchedordamaged,the
sun’ssmilefadestoaninscrutableexpression,anditemits
tremendousheatina 20 - foot-radiusspherecenteredonitself.
Anycreaturethatstartsitsturnintheareatakes 10 ( 3 d 6 )fire
damage.Thiseffectendsifallcreaturesleavetheaffectedarea.
Thefirsttimethequeen’sremainsoranyofhertreasures
areremovedfromthesarcophagus,thesun’sexpressionturns
