andappearssunlike.Carvingsoftall,headless
humanoidsdecoratethewallsoftheroom.

ThearmillaryspheredepictsToril,itsmoon,thesun,and
otherplanetarybodiesinRealmspace.Anycharacterwhohas
viewedlarge-scalemapsofFaerûnwillrecognizecertain
geographicalfeaturesontheglobe.


ActivatingtheSphere


Thefirsttimeanycreaturemoveswithin 5 feetofthe
centralglobe,read:


Theapparatussuddenlyswingsaround,itsrings
rotatingoutofthewayasthesurfaceoftheglobepeels
backtorevealadark,hollowinterior.Insidethiscavityis
apaddedbronzechairwithleversbuiltintoitsarmrests.
Whenacreaturesitsonthearmillarychair,theglobe
closesagain.Anyattempttopreventthatclosingoverloadsthe
mechanism;untiltheblockageisremoved,anycreaturewithin
5 feetofthearmillaryspherethatisn’tseatedonthechair
takes 18 ( 4 d 8 )lightningdamage.
Whenthecreatureseatedonthechairstandsup,the
globe’shatchopens,closingagainonlywhenanothercreature
sitsonthechairorwhentherearenocreatureswithin 5 feet
ofthearmillarysphere.
Whiletheglobeissealed,thecharactersittinginthechair
canseethroughtheglobeasifitweremadeoftransparent
glass.Pullingtheleversattheendofeacharmrestcausesthe
armillarysphere’sringstospintherepresentationsofthesun,
themoon,andotherplanetarybodiesinonedirectionorthe
other.


MonsterintheMoon


Anycalothiscrammedinsidethebronzeorbrepresenting
Toril’smoon,Selûne.Thefirsttimeacreatureinsidethe
armillaryspherereorientsitsringsandouterorbs,the
nycalothburstsoutofthemoon,shatteringit.Thenycaloth
thentriestokillallothercreaturesintheroom,pursuing
fleeingenemies.Itignorescreaturesinsidetheglobebut
attacksanycreaturethatexitsit.
Whenthisnycalothrollsanatural 20 onanattackroll
madewithitsgreataxe,itcutsoffthetarget'shead(oroneof
thetarget'sheads,ifithasmorethanone).Ifthetargetcan’t
survivewithoutthelosthead,itdies.Atargetthatisimmune
toslashingdamageisimmunetothiseffect.Thetargetisalso
spareddecapitationifitdoesn’thaveorneedahead,has
legendaryactions,orifitsheadistoobigtobecutoffwiththe
greataxe,thoughitstilltakesthedamagefromtheweapon’s
criticalhit.
