4. ExploretheAldaniBasin.Inete(LGfemaleChultan
humanacolyteofSavras)hashaddisturbingvisionsofred-
robedwizardsoperatingasecretbasesomewhereinthe
AldaniBasin.Theheadofhertemple,GrandfatherZitembe,
hastoomanyotherthingsonhismind,buthe’sgivenInete
permissiontoinvestigate.Inetewouldliketoaccompanythe
characters’expeditionforsafety,ifcharactersareheading
towardorthroughthatregion.She’llprovideherownfood
andsupplies,and“donate”another 100 gptotheexpedition’s
expenses.SheinsistsonstoppingbythetempleofSavrasto
gatherherbelongingsandurgesthecharacterstocomealong.
Iftheydo,thecharacterscanmeetGrandfatherZitembe(see
area 7 ).
5. FindArtusCimber.Ahalf-elfnamedXandala(see
appendixD)approachesthecharactersandclaimstobeArtus
Cimber’sdaughter.Feigningworry,sheasksthecharactersto
helpherfindhim.Artuscan’tbefoundusingmagic,but
XandalahasheardthatArtusleftthecitywithareptilianman
whodoesn’ttalkandsmellsfunny.Bothwerelastseen
headingintothejungle.XandalawantstheRingofWinterin
Artus’spossession,butshedoesn’tsharethiswiththe
characters.Summerwise,Xandala’spetpseudodragon,thinks
thequestfortheringistoodangerousbuthasgivenuptrying
totalksenseintoitsmistress.Good-alignedcharactersmight
beabletoturnSummerwiseagainstXandala,oratleastget
informationfromitthattheycanusetothwartXandala’splan
ortoaidArtus.
6. HelpaDyeingMan.Omala(NmaleChultanhuman
commoner)isamastercoloristatthedyeworks(area 23 ).He
recentlyboughtsomedancingmonkeyfruitontheblack
marketandusedthemtomakeandselldye.Shortlythereafter,
hereceivedanirontokenfromtheYtepkaSociety—agrim
warning.Hewishestoatoneforhiscrimeandseeksan
audiencewithKwayothé,themerchantprincewhocontrols
thelegalsaleoffruit.Fearingforhislife,Omalaasksthe
adventurerstoaccompanyhimtoGoldenthrone(seearea 4 ),
whereheplanstobegforKwayothé’sforgiveness.Hehasno
moneytoofferthecharactersasareward.Kwayothéiswilling
toforgiveOmala’slapseinjudgmentprovidedthecharacters
agreetokillamannamedShagowithinthenext 10 days—no
questionsasked—andspeakofthedeedtonoone.Kwayothé
tellsthemthatShagoworksasaguideoutofFortBeluarian.If
thecharactersfailinthistask,KwayothéhasOmalasentenced
toExecutioner’sRun(seearea 3 )forhiscrime.
7. HelptheLords’Alliance.LerekDashlynd(LNmale
Illuskanhumanspy),anagentoftheLords’Alliance,offersto
tradeasailingshipforanaccuratemapofChultthatshowsthe
exactlocationoftheruinsofNangaloreandOrolunga.Lerek
representswealthyWaterdhavianinterests,andtheofferis
genuine.Ifthecharacterspresentsuchamap,Lerekhasa
clericcastaugurybeforeagreeingtobuyit,tomakesurehe’s
notbuyingafake.Oncehe’sconvincedthatthemapisgenuine,
Lerekarrangestohavethepromisedshiparrivein 10 days.
8. HuntPirates.Theharbormaster,Zindar(seearea 13
andappendixD),isasecretmemberoftheYtepkaSociety.He
knowsthatthreepiratecaptainsareattackingmerchantships
headingtoandfromtheBayofChult.Thepirateshipsare
calledtheDragonfang,theEmeraldEye,andtheStirge.Zindar


haspermissionfromthemerchantprincestoofferabountyof
2 , 000 gpforeachpirateshipthatiscapturedandbroughtinto
port,andabonus 500 gpforthecaptureofeachpiratecaptain.
9. SaveanInnocentMan.Belym(LGmaleChultan
humancommoner)isdistraughtbecausehishusband,Draza
(LGmaleChultancommoner),hasbeensentencedto
Executioner’sRunforstealing.Belymassertsthathishusband
wasavictimofmistakenidentityandsentencedwithouta
properhearingortrial.He’sbeenunabletopersuadeanyone
inauthoritythatDrazaisinnocent.He’llgivethecharacters 25
sp(allhissavings)iftheycanhelpDrazafromthesidelinesso
hesurvivestherun.Drazaisabouttobethrownintothepit
withapairofvelociraptors,sothecharactersmustactquickly.
Boththeauthoritiesandthegamblerstakeadimviewof
interference.
10. SeekWisdomatOrolunga.Eshek(NGmaleChultan
humanacolyteofSavras)stumblesuptothecharactersinthe
streetandwhispers,“SpeaktothewiseguardianofOrolunga,
eastofMbala.Shecandirectyoutothatwhichyouseek.”Then
hecollapses,unconscious.Whenheawakensmomentslater,
Eshekhasnomemoryofthelast 12 hoursasidefromadriving
needtofindpeoplematchingthecharacters’descriptions.He’s
aspuzzledbywhatjusthappenedasthecharactersprobably
are,buthe’llhelpthemhoweverhecan.Attheveryleast,he
knowswhereMbalaisfromspeakingtoporterswho’vebeen
toCampVengeance.

ThroneHill,siteofGoldenthrone.Asecondbridgeconnects
ThroneHilltothesouthernslopes,siteofseveralmerchant
princes’villas.Eastoftheharbor,theHallofGoldgleamsatop
thecity’stallesthill,MountSibasa,whichisconnectedby
bridgetotheneighboringYklwaziHill(pronouncedyick-ul-
WAH-zee),siteoftheGrandColiseum.Steep,steppedstreets
andterracessurroundeachhill.
Outsidethemainwallsarethreeslums:theOldCitytothe
southwest,wheremanybuildingsareremnantsofolder,
pyramidalconstruction;Malar’sThroattothesouth,where
buildingsclingtothewallsofalushcanyonspannedbyrope
bridges;andTirykiAnchoragetothesoutheast,where
explorersandriverfolkgather.
Abouthalfthecity’spopulationlivescrowdedtogether
outsidethewalls,wherethey’realwaysexposedtosudden
attacksbycarnivoresorundead.Avolunteercitizens’brigade
keepswatchforapproachingdanger.Whenresidentsofthe
outerwardshearthelongblastofwarninghorns,dayornight,
theyscrambleforthesafetyoftheMarketWardand
Merchants’Warduntiltheallclearsounds.
