(Nmaleandfemalebanditsofvariousethnicities).
CharactersmightassumethatOrtimay’schiefbusinessis
smuggling—andthey’dbecorrect.However,sheishappyto
takeadventurerswherevertheyneedtogo.Sheknowsabout
thedragonturtleintheBayofChultandexpectsthe
characterstoprovidethenecessarytribute.Shealsoknows
thatpiratesprowlthewatersaroundChult,thoughhership
easilyoutrunstheirs.
Therearenopermanentsheltersorcabinsonthemain
deckoftheBrazenPegasus.Atarpcanberiggedacrosstheaft
portionofthedeckforshadefromthetropicalsun.Thesailors
sleepondeckwhenweatherpermits.Thelowerdeckhouses
CaptainOrtimay’scabinandthecargohold,whichdoublesas
thecrew’scooking,eating,andsleepingareainfoulweather.
11 .RoyalDocks
Theterm“royal”datesbacktotheagewhenChultwasruled
bytruekingsandqueensinsteadofmerchants.Nowthese
docksarereservedfortheexclusiveuseofthemerchant
princesandthosediplomats,dignitaries,andinfluential
foreignmerchantswhomthemerchantprinceswanttoflatter
withprivilegeorimpresswithmagnificence.
12 .Statue
Thestatueatthecenteroftheharborrepresentsanancient
Chultankinginfullregalia,resplendentinaloinclothof
leopardskinandaheaddressoffeathers,shells,and
tyrannosaurusteeth;drapedinacapeofgirallonfurand
monkeytails;andwieldingthetraditionalovalshieldand
yklwaofChult.ResidentscallitNaN’buso,theGreatKing.
Thestatueisn’tnearlyasancientasthemythickingit
portrays.Itwaserectedjustfiveyearsago,atatimewhenPort
Nyanzaruwasflexingitsnewmercantilemuscle,toimpresson
foreignersthatChultisanindependentlandwithaglorious
history.Fewwhoseeitfailtogetthemessage.
13 .Harbormaster’sOffice
Outsideoftheharbormaster’sofficeisabulletinboardthat
providesthenamesandwhereaboutsofseveralwilderness
guides(see“FindingaGuide”).Theharbormasterisahalf-gold
dragonnamedZindar(seeappendixD).He’sseldominthis
sturdy,airybuilding,however;mostofhistimeisspent
dealingwiththehundredsofdisputes,trafficjams,andother
minorproblemsthatcropupeverydayonabusyquayside.
Zindarfindsthathisimposingpersonalpresencegetsissues
resolvedmorequicklyandmoretohissatisfactionthanany
numberofsubordinatescanaccomplish.Clerksintheoffice
seldomknowexactlywhereZindarisatanytime,but
messagescanbeleftforhim;he’llleaveareplywithin 1 d 6
hours.

14 .Lighthouse
Aflameburnsatopthelighthousedayandnighttoguideships
throughdarkness,fog,andraintotheharbor.Various
powderscanbeaddedtothefiretocreatethickcolumnsof
coloredsmokethatcanbeseenfromFortBeluarianandfrom
theminesalongtheBayofChult.
15 .FortNyanzaru
Thefortcontainsawinchforraisingandloweringanimmense
ironchainstretchedbetweenthefortandthelighthouse.
Whenthechainisraised,noshipcansailintooroutofthe
harbor.Thechainhasn’tbeenraisedagainstattackersin
decades,butit’susedoccasionallytopreventashipfrom
slippingoutoftheharborwithcriminalsorcontrabandon
board.Thefortalsomountstwoballistasthatcanlaunch
heavyboltsorcanistersofalchemist’sfire.Itsgarrison
consistsofanoble(thecastellan),fourveterans(officers),and
fortyguardsloyaltothemerchantprinces.
16 .WarehouseDistrict
GoodsofeverytypebeingshippedintooroutofPort
Nyanzaruarestoredinthesewarehouses.Canalsarecut
betweentherowsofwarehouses,allowingshipstobetowed
byharnesseddinosaursdirectlytothedesiredwarehousefor
easierloadingandunloading.Alargeshipcaneasilyblocka
canal,sogoodtrafficmanagementisrequired;that’soneofthe
harbormaster’sresponsibilities.
Likeanywarehousedistrict,thisoneislargelydesertedat
night,makingitagoodspotforsecretmeetingsandother
mischief.
17 .DryDock
PortNyanzaruisn’tfamousforbuildingships,butmany
vesselsthatcomeherewindupneedinghullrepairs—
especiallythosethathadrun-inswithtyphoons,pirates,or
Aremagthedragonturtle(see“BayofChult”).It’seasywork
fordinosaurstodragshipsoutofthewaterintothedrydock
soholescanbepatchedandbarnaclesscrapedoff.

TheresidentsofPortNyanzarushopfortheirdailyneeds
attheRedBazaar.UnliketheGrandSouk,whichdealsheavily
indurablegoodsandluxuryitems,theRedBazaardealsin
everydayneeds:locallyproducedmeat,vegetables,tropical
fruit,tej,lighttropicalclothing,insectrepellent,raincatchers,
andotherhouseholdgoods.ThebuyersandsellersintheRed
Bazaararepredominantlylocals.
Inns.TwonoteworthyinnsarelocatedneartheRed
Bazaar.TheThunderingLizardcaterstoaraucousclientele,
andabedforthenightcosts 5 sp.Kaya’sHouseofReposeis
muchquieter,butabedforthenightcosts 1 gp.Wilderness
guidesareknowntofrequentbothestablishments,lookingfor
work(see“FindingaGuide”).
