BeluarianLanding,whichisnothingmorethanastretchof
beachwithafewlogbuildingsabovethetideline.Ships
anchorahalf-mileoffshore,andpeopleandsuppliesare
ferriedbackandforthonrowboats.SixFlamingFistguards
defendthisstation;theirchiefdutyisrowingtheboatsback
andforth.Incaseofdanger,theycanbarricadethemselves
insidethestoutestlogbuildingorrowouttoseauntil
whateverthreatensthemlosesinterestandwandersaway.
ThetrekfromBeluarianLandingtothefortis 14 miles
alongawell-markedtrail.Thistrailisnotpatrolled.


1 .WestGate
Themainentranceisclosedbytwomassivewoodendoors
withbarsthattakeeightpeopletoslideaside.Becausethe
areaispatrolledandtheforthasexcellentall-roundlinesof
sight,thegatesstandopenduringtheday,exceptwhenheavy
rainrestrictsvisibilityandallowsthepossibilityofasneak
attack.Thewesterngatehousewallsare 20 feethigh,andthe
parapetsarepatrolleddayandnightbysixguards.Thewalls
ringingtherestofthecampare 12 feethigh,buttheylook
higherfromoutsidebecauseofthefort’selevation.


2 .OreGate
Despiteitsname,thissecondarygateonthesouthwallofthe
forthasnothingtodowithore.It’sasallyportthefort’s
defenderscanusetolaunchcounterattacksagainstenemies
assailingthemaingate.Itstayssolidlyclosedandbarredmost
ofthetime.


3 .Armorer/Weaponsmith
TheironminesofChultprovideeverythingthegarrisonneeds
tomakeweapons,armor,andmetaltoolsandimplements.
KorhieDonadrue(LGmaleChondathanhumanspy)isthe
chiefarmorerforthefort.Havingspentyearsasanadventurer
himselfbeforebecomingasmith,heenjoyshaving
adventurersandexplorersspendtimeinhisworkarea,
swappingtalesandsharingnewsoftheworld.
Characterscanbuymosttypesofweapons,ammunition,
andarmorhere,atprices 25 percentabovethoselistedinthe
Player’sHandbook.Donadruewouldchargethemless,butthe
pricesaresetbytheFlamingFist.


4 .Bazaar
Adozentraderslivewithinthefortandmanageitsbazaar.
Soldiersfromthefortareonlyatinypartoftheirbusiness.
Mostoftheirtradeinvolvessellinggeartoexplorersand
suppliestominers.Thetradersalsobuyandsellgems,hides,
animalparts(feathers,teeth,andsoforth),andsmallanimals.
Theirpricesare 50 percenthigherthanthoseinthePlayer’s
Handbook,duetotheremotenessofthestation.


5 .TempleofHelm
FortdwellerspraytoHelmforprotectionagainstthedangers
oftheland.ShilauM’wenye(LNmaleChultanhumanpriest)is
inchargeofthetempleandacceptsdonations.Hisfatherwasa
Chultanpriest,andhismotherwasaShoumercenaryposted
inChult.Healwaystriestoseethebestinotherpeople
withoutjudgingthem.


6 .Stables
Horsesaren’tnativetoChult,andtheclimate(anditsmany
pests)arehardontheanimals.Still,afewTethyrianmembers
oftheFlamingFistbroughttheirhorsestoFortBeluarianwith


them,andthey’renowapartofthecultureofthefort.The
horsesseldomleavetheimmediatevicinityofthefort;they’re
allbutuselessinthejungle.
Thestablehasstallsforadozenhorses.Onlysevenare
stabledtherenow(tworidinghorsesandfiveunarmored
warhorses).
ThestablemasterisThaeventheBald(NmaleTethyrian
humancommonerwithAnimalHandling+ 4 ).Hetakes
excellentcareoftheanimals,totheextentthat’spossiblein
thisclimate,whilecomplainingconstantlyaboutthe
impossibilityoftakingpropercareofhorsesinthisclimate.
7 .JoustingField
Themainreasonhorsesarekeptatthefortisforjousting.
Tournamentsareheldonceamonth,andlesserboutsoccur
whenenoughpeoplehavetimeofforwhentwoFlamingFist
membershaveanissuetosettlebetweenthem.
TethyriansoldiersstationedatFortBeluarianbrought
theirchivalricpanoplyandpageantrywiththem,butthey’ve
combineditwithajungleaesthetictocreatesomethingunique.
Theusualsymbolsinvolvingfalcons,dragons,suns,andso
forthgivewayinChulttoleopard-skintabards,dinosaur-
themedheraldry,helmetsshapedlikesnarlingpanthersor
swoopingpteranodons,andarmorbedeckedwith
tyrannosaurusteethandparrotfeathers.
WealthymerchantsfromPortNyanzarusometimesmake
thejourneytoattendthejoustingtournaments.Theycamp
aroundthefortincolorfulpavilionsandplaceoutrageousbets
ontheoutcomesofmatches.

AGENTSOFTHEFLAMINGFIST


IftheadventurersspendadayinFortBeluarian,Liara
Portyrbecomesawareofthemanddispatchesaguardtobring
themtothegreathall(area 10 C).Adventurerswhorefusethe
summonsarebanishedfromthefort.Thosewhoagreetomeet
withLiaraareaskedtoservetheFlamingFist.Foreachservice
theyperform,thecharactersreceiveareward.Characterswho
declinetoservetheFlamingFistarewelcometocontinue
abouttheirbusiness,butanythingtheywishtobuyinFort
Beluariancostsfivetimesthenormalpricefromthatpointon.
GhoulHunters.Portyrasksthecharacterstohelpridthe
jungleofghouls.Ifthecharactersareuptothetask,Portyr
givesthepartyafreecharterofexploration.Foreverysevered
ghoulheadthecharactersbringher,she’llpaythem 20 gp.
(Shehasenoughmoneytocovertherewardforuptoeleven
severedghoulheads.)
ShilkuReconnaissance.Portyrasksthecharacterstoset
sailforShilkuBay,conductaone-weekreconnaissanceofthe
destroyedvillageofShilku,andreturntoFortBeluarianto
reportwhatthey’veseen.Ifthecharactersacceptthemission,
Portyrpaysfortheirfoodandpassageandgivesthepartya
freecharterofexploration.Iftheycompletethemission,the
charactersaregivenfreemealsandguestrooms(seearea 10 J)
whenevertheyvisitFortBeluarian,andeachcharacter
receivesonepotionorscrollchosenfromtheonesavailablein
thestores(seearea 10 G).
StrangersinaStrangeLand.FlamingFistscoutshave
spottedgiantfootprintssouthofFortBeluarian.Ifthe
charactersfindoutwhoorwhatismakingthetracks,and
discoverwherethey’recomingfromandwhatthreat(ifany)
theyposetoFortBeluarian,Portyrwillrewardthemwithfive
magicarrows(seearea 10 G).Ifthecharactersacceptthe
mission,Portyrgivesthepartyafreecharterofexploration.To
