Thebarracksarethesleeping,eating,andgeneralgetting-out-
of-the-rainspaceforthefort’senlistedgarrison.
Onparticularlystiflingnights,manysoldiersabandonthe
barracksandslinghammocksintheguardtowers.Thebreeze
atopthewallsprovidessomecoolingandrelieffrominsects.

Thisbastionisafortwithinafort.Thebaileyis 20 feettallat
thepeakoftheroof,andtheattachedpalisadeis 16 feethigh,
sothewholestructurecanbeseenfromoutsideFort
Beluarian.Thegatesarealwaysopenunlessthefortisunder
attackorpatrolshavereportedunusualamountsofundeadin
theneighborhood.Intheeventthattheouterwallisbreached
andthemainenclosureoverrun,thegarrisonwouldretreatto
thisredoubtforitsfinaldefense.

Thebailey’scentralcourtyardisopentothesky.Itcanbe
sealedoffwithheavygatesandstoutlydefendedbyevena
handfulofsoldiers.Aboardwalkisinstalledaroundthe
courtyard,sopeopledon’tneedtowalkinthemudwhenrain
poursdown.
Awoodenstatueofanarmoredmanstandsinthemiddle
ofthecourtyard.ThestatueportraysGrandDukeUlder
RavengardofBaldur’sGate,leaderoftheFlamingFist.

Sixhadrosaurusesandfourdeinonychuses(seeappendixD

Thehadrosaurusesserveasmountsforsmall,fast-moving
patrolsoraspackanimalsforlarger,longerpatrols.The
deinonychusesareusedforhunting—likedogs,onlyfarmore
vicious.Theseanimalsarewellrespectedbythesoldiersofthe
garrison.

Hisfaceandarmsarecoveredintattoosandscars,andhe’s
missinghalfofhisrighthand;toothmarksarestillclearly
visibleinthescartissue.DespiteRahl’sferociousappearance,
he’sajovialpranksterwhospendsmostofhisoff-dutytime
tellingwildstoriesattheprovisioneroroneofthealetentsin
thebazaar,inexchangeforfreedrinks.
