They’reinvolvedintheirtasksandnotexpectingintruders,
andthechamberisnoisy,sothefirenewtsaresurprisedunless
charactersmovearoundopenlyorotherwisedrawattention
tothemselves.
Thecentralpitcontainsmolteniron.Thesmallerpool
containsmoltenadamantine,notsilver.Acreaturethatfalls
intoeitherpitorstartsitsturntheretakes 55 ( 10 d 10 )fire
damage.
Thecranetothesouth(overhangingarea 1 )isusedto
loweracrucibleoforeintothemagmariveruntiltheoreis
liquid.Liquifiedoreisrolledalongthetracksintoarea 2 ,
whereit’sdumpedintotheappropriatecauldron.


3 .Armory
Thedwarves’enemiescovetedtherichesofHrakhamar.To
defendtheirtrove,thedwarvesstockpiledweaponsandarmor
inthischamber.Thefirenewtshaven’tbotheredmostofit;
theyprefertheirownweaponsoverheavierdwarvendesigns,
andthedwarves’armordoesn’tfitthem.
Thischamberincludessixeachofbattleaxes,greataxes,
mauls,morningstars,warpicks,warhammers,andheavy
crossbows,plustwohundredcrossbowboltsandfoursuitsof
dwarvenhalf-platearmor.IfcharactersareledherebySithi
Vinecutter,she’swillingtoletthecharacterstakeoneweapon
apiece.


4 .Forge
Moltenironandadamantinefromarea 2 ishoistedintothe
northernmostofthesetwochambers,whereit’scastinto
ingots.Someofthemetalwasworkedintotoolsand
replacementpartsontheanvilsintheroom,butmostofthe
ironwasmovedtothetreasury(area 6 ).Adamantineingots
weresenttothesouthernportionoftheforge,wherethe
massivestampinghammerinthecenteroftheroompounded
outimpurities.Thepoundingsoundheardthroughoutthe
forgecomesfromthismachine-drivenhammer.
Whencharactersarrive,fourfirenewtwarriorsareinthe
northernchamber,andsixfirenewtwarriorsareworkingin
thesouthernchamberunderthesupervisionofafirenewt
warlockofImix.SeeappendixDforthefirenewts’statistics.
IronLever.Thehallwaybetweenareas 4 and 6 is
featurelessexceptforaheavyironleversetintothenorthwall
20 feetfromthedoortoarea 4 .Theleverisinthedown
positionandcanbeliftedeasily.Doingsoextendsthewalkway
acrossthemagmatoarea 6 ,ifthetraptherecauseditto
retract.Movingtheleverwhilethegantryisextendedcauses
gearstogrindforafewmomentsdeepintherock,butnothing
else.


5 .Stores
Inthesechambers,thedwarvesstoredsuppliesofeverykind,
fromfoodtoleatherapronstoprotectivegogglesto
parchmentandink.Thefirenewtslootedallofit.Nowthechief
featuresoftheseroomsare“nests”ofancientdwarven
clothing,insulatedgloves,andotherpaddedmaterialthatthe
firenewtssleeponinshifts.Thesmellinthisareaishorrid,
likeburninghairmixedwithburningrubber.Adisturbancein
anyofthechambersawakensanddrawsinallthefirenewtsin
thestoragearea.
Thenorthwestroomisunoccupied.Inthenortheastroom,
threefirenewtwarriorsplayknuckleboneswithdwarven
knuckles.Fourfirenewtwarriorssleepinaheapinthemiddle
ofthesouthwestroom.Thesoutheastroomcontainstwo
firenewtwarlocksofImixarguingquietlyoverwhetherto


denouncethewarlockinarea 4 forheresyagainstImix.See
appendixDforthefirenewts’statistics.
6 .Treasury
Twosuitsofdwarvenhalfplatearmorstandoneither
sideofanadamantine-bandedirondoor.Thesesuitsof
armorwerebeautifulonce,butnowthey’rescarredby
weapons,scorchedbyfire,andsmearedwithfilth.The
doorhastwolocks,oneabovetheother.

Thedwarvessealedtheirtreasurevaultbeforeleaving
Hrakhamar,andit’sremainedsealedtothisday.Despitetheir
bestefforts,thefirenewtshavebeenunabletoforcethedoor
ordefeatthelocks.
LockedDoor.Thedoor’supperlockisembeddedinan
adamantineframeresemblingastylizedformofthedwarven
runefor“beginnings.”Therunecanbeinterpretedcorrectly
byacharacterwhoreadsDwarvish.Thelowerlockwas
originallyembeddedinagoldenframeintheshapeofa
stylizeddwarvenrunefor“endings,”butthefirenewtsscraped
awaythegoldandusedittodecoratetheirshrinetoImix
(area 7 ).Scarringonthedoorhintsatwhatusedtobethere;it
canbeinterpretedcorrectlybysomeonewhoreadsDwarvish
andmakesasuccessfulDC 15 Intelligence(Investigation)
check.Eachlockcanbepickedwiththieves’toolsanda
successfulDC 20 Dexteritycheck.
Thelowerlockistrapped.Thetrapcanbespottedwitha
successfulDC 13 Wisdom(Perception)check,butit’s
impossibletodisarmorbypass.Thetrapistriggeredifan
attempttopickthelowerlockfailsby 5 ormore,ifthewrong
keyisusedinthelock,orifit’sopenedbyanymeansbefore
theupperlock.Thetrapcausesthemetalgantrybetweenthe
treasuryandtheforge(area 4 )toretractwest,leavinga 40 -
footgapacrossthemagma.Thebridgecanbere-extended
onlybyliftingtheleverinthecorridorfromarea 4 .Thelever
istoofarawaytobemanipulatedwithmagehandbyanyone
onthetreasurysideofthemagmariver.
Thekeystothetreasurywerewithinthefirenewts’grasp.
However,theyfailedtorecognizethekeysforwhattheywere
andincorporatedthemintoastatuetheybuiltintheshrineof
Imix(area 7 ).
SideChamber.Thesolutiontoopeningthedoorliesina
seeminglyemptysidechambernearthetreasury.Anyone
searchingthisroomturnsupacuriousboxtossedintothe
corner.Theboxismadeofironandresemblesabook,andit
opensfrombothsides,ratherlikethefrontandbackcoversof
abook.Onesidebearsthedwarvenrunefor“beginnings,”the
otherbearstherunefor“endings.”Openingeithersidereveals
theimpressionofakeyintheironplate.Theoriginalkeysfor
thetreasurywerestoredinthisbox.
WithallthetoolsofHrakhamarattheirdisposal,copiesof
bothkeyscanbemadefromtheseimpressionsbyacharacter
whohasproficiencywithsmith’stoolsandwhomakesa
successfulDC 10 Intelligencecheck.SithiVinecutterhasthe
neededproficiencyifnoneofthecharactersdo.Musharib(see
“FindingaGuide")alsohasthenecessaryskill.Afterthree
failedchecks,thebox’simpressionsareruined,andthebox
cannolongerbeusedtomoldnewkeys.
