3 .Kubazan’sShrine


Arectangularpoolofmurkywaterstretchesbeforethis
vine-drapedshrine.Ropebridgesthatoncespannedthe
waterfloatonthesurface,tangledwithotherdebris.The
shardsofatoppledmonolithformsteppingstonesto
themiddleofthepool,whereastatueofastonefrog
risesabovethewater.

TheshrinetothetrickstergodKubazan(representedasa
froghemoth)containsoneofninepuzzlecubesneededto
entertheTomboftheNineGods.


3 A.FroghemothPool
Thispoolis 6 feetdeepandcloudedwithmudandalgae.A
characterwhosucceedsonaDC 14 Wisdom(Perception)
checkspotstheeyestalkofafroghemoth(seeappendixD)
stickingoutofthepool.Thefroghemothattacksanyonewho
disturbsthewaterortriestoreachtheshrine,heavingitself
fromthepooltopursueprey.
Theshatteredmonolithisslipperywithmoss,andthe
rottedropebridgessinkassoonasanyonestepsonthem.Any
characterwhojumpsacrossthesteppingstonesmustsucceed
onaDC 10 Dexterity(Acrobatics)checktokeepfromfallingin
thepool.
StoneKey.Acharacterwhoexaminesthemouthofthe
frogstatuespotsastonekeysetintoanindentationonthe
statue’stongue.Thiskeyopensthelockedgateatarea 3 B.

Carvedintothelintelabovethislockedgateisaninscription

andtogivebackasmuchaswetake.”Acharacterwhoheeds
thewordsgainssomeinsightintothetrialthatawaitsinarea

Topickthelock,acharacterwiththieves’toolsmust
succeedonaDC 20 Dexteritycheck.Whetherthecheck
succeedsorfails,aglyphofwardingspelltargetsthecharacter
withafearspell(saveDC 15 ).Theglyphdoesn’ttriggerifthe
doorisunlockedusingthestonekeyfromthefroghemothpool

3 C.ChamberofBravery

Stepsdescendtoaledgeoverlookingapitofsharpened

stonecuberestingonit.Areliefcarvedintothebackof
thealcoveshowsamonstrousfrogwithtentacles
fightingacrane.Woodenbeamsradiatefromthewalls
atfloorheight,withfour-footgapsbetweenthem.

disadvantage.Atthesametime,thecarvedfrogheadsonthe
wallsopentheirmouths,belchforthenoughpoisonousgasto
filltheshrine,andthenclosetheirmouths.Placinganobjectof
equalweighttothepuzzlecube(halfapound)onthepedestal
preventsthegateclosureandthereleaseofgas.
Thegasfillstheshrinefor 1 minute,thendissipates.Any
creaturethatstartsitsturninsidetheshrinewhilethegasis
presentmustsucceedonaDC 12 Constitutionsavingthrowor
take 10 ( 3 d 6 )poisondamage.Creaturesareaffectedevenif
theyholdtheirbreathordon’tneedtobreathe.

4 .Shagambi’sShrine


Aruinedshrinestandsattheheartofthiswalled
compound.Tallmonolithsflanktheentrance,decorated
withimagesofajaguarwithsixsnakessproutingfrom
itsshoulders.Astonedoorissetintotheshrinebeyond.

TheshrinetothetrickstergodShagambi(representedasa
kamadan)containsoneofninepuzzlecubesneededtoenter
theTomboftheNineGods.
Twomatedkamadans(seeappendixD)useacartatthe
backoftheshrineastheirlair.Iftheyhearintruders
approachingtheshrine,thekamadanstrytoambushthem.
Thekamadansfighttoothandclawtoprotecttheirthree
youngcubs.Kamadancubsarenoncombatantsthatlooklike
babyleopardsandgrowtoadultsizewithinayear.Thecubs’
snakeswon’tsproutfromtheirshouldersforanother 6
months.Characterscancapturethecubsandspendmonths
tryingtodomesticatethem,butthekamadansturnontheir
would-bemastersoncetheyreachadulthoodinayear.
