    Encroaching underbrush hasyet to engulfthe square.


On the east side of town,thelaneopens up to form a small
square. Several ruined buildings surround thesouth side of
the square, but a larger, intact structure to thenorth looks
likea barracks. One laneleads southeast, another heads
southwest around the hill in themiddle of the town,and
a third waymeanders north. In the middleof the square,
leaning to oneside everso slightly, is a weathered wooden
statue of a warrior clutching a spear and shield.

Theleaning statue is ten feettall,including the base.It
depicts an old heroof Neverwinter named Palien, who
supposedly defeated several monsters in Neverwinter
WoodwhenThundertree wasfirstfounded.A character who
studiesthe statuerecognizes the depictionwitha successful
DC15 Intelligence (History) check.Thestatue canbe
knocked overwitha successful DC 20 Strengthcheck.


  1. OLD GARRISON


Forthe residentsof Thundertree, livingso closeto
Neverwinter Wood demanded constant vigilance.



Thebarracks appears to haveweathered the years better
than most buildings in town. Its rooftopfeatures a simple
battlement, andarrow-slit windows confirm that it wasbuilt
to serveas a smallke.epin times of emergency.

Fiveashzombies (seethe "AshZombies" sidebar) lurk
within thisbuilding. Former members of the garrison,
theystillwear the remnantsof rustedmailandsoldiers'
surcoats. These scraps of armordo not improve their
Armor Class,however. Thezombies animate andattack if
anylivingcreature disturbs their rest.
Theinterior of the buildingstillcontains furnishings,
andthe mainroomhasa ladderleading through a
trapdoor to the roof.Thechamber to the northcontains
twodoublebunks,while the chamberto the southhas
three doublebunks, providing quarters for ten soldiers
altogether. To the northwestof the mainareaof the
barracks wasa kitchen andpantry, nowcontaining
piles of well-rottedsacks andbarrels thatonceheld
salted meat.All the foodstuffshavelongsince been
devoured by vermin.

dragon to Thundertree (seearea 7) andare waitingfor
the rightmoment to approach the dragonandbroker an
alliance. Theyhavebeen spying on the dragonfromafar,
tryingto gaugeits demeanorandits needs.
