SUBSTITUTION


The most straightforward functions questions you’ll encounter on Math 2 are questions like
Example 1 that ask you simply to apply a function to some number or expression.


Example 1

To find f(q − 1), plug t = q − 1 into the definition. Substituting an algebraic expression for t is a little
more complicated than substituting a number for t, but the idea’s the same.
