“extraneous” solutions. Look:

But if  you plug    those   solutions   back    into    the original    equation,   you’ll  find    that    x   =   −6  doesn’t
work. The only solution is x = −1.

Alternatively,  you could   Backsolve   using   the numbers provided    in  the answer  choices.
