SAT Subject Test Mathematics Level 1

(Marvins-Underground-K-12) #1
S   =   2ℓw +   2ℓh +   2wh

Here, for each rectangular block, ℓ = 7, w = 5, and h = 4. So the surface area of
one rectangular block is

2 × 7 × 5 + 2 × 7 × 4 + 2 × 5 × 4 = 70 + 56 + 40 = 166

Since there are 24 blocks in the carton, the total surface area of these 24
blocks is 24 × 166 = 3,984. So the answer is choice (E).

You’ve covered the solid geometry topics that you’re likely to encounter on
Math 1. You’ve reviewed the facts and formulas and learned some useful
strategies. Now it’s time for you to try another set of typical solid geometry
questions.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

Surface Area of a Rectangular Solid

Distance Between Opposite Vertices of a Rectangular Solid

Volume  Formulas    for Uniform Solids

If the length is ℓ, the width is w, and the height is h, the formula is
Surface Area = 2ℓw + 2wh + 2ℓh
