SAT Subject Test Mathematics Level 1

(Marvins-Underground-K-12) #1

When one function is written inside another function’s parentheses, apply the
inside function first:

Then apply the outside function to the result:

The answer is (C).

Notice that there’s a difference between f(g(2)) and g(f(2)). In the latter, you’re
to apply the function f first and then the function g to the result. The order
makes a difference: f(g(2))≈1.68, but g(f(2))≈2.45 (which is, of course, included
in the answer choices as a distractor).

(A) 0

(B) 1.41

(C) 1.68

(D) 2.45
