SAT Subject Test Mathematics Level 1

(Marvins-Underground-K-12) #1

values of y. A function, by definition, yields no more than one y for any
particular x.

To choose between (B) and (C), think about what value of x yields y = 0.

So the graph touches the x-axis on the positive side, and the answer is (B).

Now that you’ve had a good look at some typical Math 1 test functions
questions, it’s time to try a few more on your own. See how well you can do
with the questions in the Functions Follow-Up Test.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

Functions: Domain and Range
A function is a set of ordered pairs (x, y) such that for each value of x,
there is one and only one value of y.
The set of all allowable x values is called the domain. Note that,
according to the Math 1 test directions, the domain of any function f
is assumed to be the set of all real numbers x for which f(x) is a real
number.
The corresponding set of all y values is called the range.
