The Longman Literature in EnglishSeries (1984– ). General editors, David Carroll and

Michael Wheeler; 35 volumes to date. Comprehensive literary history.

The Oxford English Literary History(2002– ). General editor, Jonathan Bate. Most of the

volumes so far published can be recommended.
