Novelist and short-story writer born Edgardo Vega Yunqué in Puerto Rico. His
works include Comeback (1985), Mendoza’s Dreams (1987), and Casualty Report
(1991).


Helena María Viramontes (1954– )
Mexican American fiction writer whose works include The Moths and Other Sto-
ries (1985), Paris Rats in E .L .A. (1993), and Under the Feet of Jesus (1995).


Shawn Wong (1949– )
Chinese American writer who was one of the coeditors of Aiiieeeee! (1974) and
The Big Aiiieeeee! (1991) and is the author of the novels Homebase (1979) and
American Knees (1995).


Lois-Ann Yamanaka (1960– )
Hawaii-born Japanese American fiction writer whose works include Saturday
Night at the Pahala Theatre (1993), Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers (1996), Blu’s
Hanging (1997), Name Me Nobody (1999), Father of Four Passages (2001), and
Behold the Many (2006). She wrote the screenplay for the film The Silent Years
(2004).


Karen Tei Yamashita (1951– )
Japanese American writer whose nine-year residence in Brazil was the inspiration
for the novels Through the Arc of the Rain Forest (1990) and Brazil-Maru (1992).
Her other novels include Tropic of Orange (1997) and I Hotel (2010). Circle K
Cycles (2001) blends memoir, short stories, and photographs.
