CSE: A FORMULA TO REMEMBER

Remember “CSE” and you’ll remember the main elements of a good argumentative essay:

C State a claim

S Support that claim with evidence from the text

E Explain your thinking

As you are writing, if you discover something you didn’t see before, and you are sure

that the new discovery is important, pay attention to it. Do not be too constrained by

your initial outline.
