“I think I’d
quite like
to share
a stitching
session with
the Queen of
England and
maybe get
to see the
royal collection of stitching and
costume. I’m sure both would be
very inspiring experiences!”
Tinya Parkes, County Antrim
“Miranda Hart
and Dennis
Waterman.
I have admired
Miranda for
years and
would love to
chat, laugh
and stitch
with her. And I’ve adored Dennis
since I was a child and would love
to teach him to stitch.
Tina Ayres-Chilton, Hampshire

“It’d have
to be Hugh
Jackman! He
could sing
songs from
The Greatest
Showman
while I stitch
and then he
could help me cut my threads
using his Wolverine claws!”
Jacqueline Billington, Birmingham

Layers of history

H

ere’s the Mother’s Day
gift that I made for my
grandmother this year!
I printed a vintage map of her
hometown on aida that I dyed
using tea. Then, I topped that

with a picture of her childhood
home printed on linen. On
top of that, I added a stitched
portrait of my mother, aunt
and grandmother together.
This was my first attempt

at a mixed-media
collage incorporating
stitching, and I’m
hooked! My mother
was speechless
when she saw it
before I gave it to my
grandmother, which
meant more than any
words. The next thing
I’m going to make is
some beet-dyed aida.
Then, I plan on making
my husband a collage honouring
his hometown’s history. I’ll include
stitching with layers of historic
buildings and old maps, too.
I can’t wait to get started!
Diana Belair, USA
Alison says: This is such a unique
idea, Diana, and I’m certain that
your grandmother loved it. I hope
we get to see your next collage!

and linen to create this beautiful
