Heather’s world

of making up!

Heather at her creation station making
up projects for future issues of Crazy.
Part of Heather’s role is to
turn the finished stitching for
projects into the different
pieces you see throughout
Crazy. “I always iron the
stitching beforehand. Then,
I plan it all out in a notebook,
measure it all twice and get cracking,”
she explains. “I can’t stress enough
how important this is for getting your
finished design looking its best!”

Before you start stitching, Heather
recommends taking time to really think
about what you want to turn
your stitching into, as you may
want to leave a wider border
around your work for making
up later. There are so many
ways you can finish off your
stitching – too many to fit on
just two pages! So, here are six of
Heather’s quick and easy ways you can
make up your stitching, plus top tips
for adding that perfect finishing touch.

Heather says:
“Don’t cut your
thread too long!
The longer it is,
the more there
is to tangle.”

Turn your stitching into cards and gift tags for
special occasions with these easy steps!

1 For an aperture card, measure the aperture
first. Then, cut your stitching to a slightly larger
size with a 1cm (½in) border. Stick double-
sided tape around the aperture on the reverse
side, as close to the edge as possible.

2 Lay your stitching face-up and position the
card above, with the aperture framing the
design. Move the card around until you’re
happy with the position, then stick in place.

3 Stick more strips of tape to the left-hand
flap of the card. Insert white paper behind the
aida, then fold over the flap. For a patched
card or gift tag, simply trim your aida with
a two-square border and fray one row.

How to make cards and gift tags

4 Cut some white paper to a slightly
smaller size than your aida and stick to
the back of your aida with double-sided
tape. Place more strips of double-sided
tape to the back of the white paper and
position carefully over the card blank or
gift tag and stick into place.
